Safety
If you don't feel safe in a
relationship, or the behaviour of a partner or ex-partner is frightening you, here
are some suggestions to help you:
1. Safe searching
If you want to speak to someone or find out some information about domestic abuse, try and use phones or computers in a public place, like your local library. If you need to use your own computer/laptop/ smart phone - be aware that these may still store your internet search history even if you have cleared it.
If you do not want anyone to find out what you have been searching for you can clear your searches by:
If Using Internet Explorer browser:
Select TOOLS from the bar of buttons at the top of the screen and Select 'INTERNET OPTIONS' then 'GENERAL'
Under Browsing history section select ' DELETE BROWSING HISTORY ON EXIT'. Done
Or select TOOLS, select ' DELETE BROWSING HISTORY, then tick 'DELETE HSITORY, COOKIES AND TEMPORARY FILE' options. Done
Firefox browser
Select TOOLS, choose OPTIONS, select PRIVACY and 'NEVER REMEMBER HISTORY' from drop down menu, then exit the browser. Done
Check settings for 'cookies' is disabled as this can store information too.
Google Chrome browser
Select TOOLS, select : 'CLEAR BROWSING HISTORY' then 'OBLITERATE BROWSING, DOWNLOADS AND COOKIES'. Done
Smart phones
This may vary slightly between models. Select Internet Settings, or browser, select History and 'Clear all'.
GPS is a very handy app to have on your phone to get to places, however it also makes you traceable through your mobile phone, to protect your movements ensure this feature on your phone. is switched off.
Cookies Check your 'cookie' settings on your internet accessible device: A cookie preference box usually 'pops up' on your screen when you access the internet asking if you want to allow cookies click NO. This is because these remember your searches and personal information and often adverts 'pop up' relating to your searches without prompting at a later date. You can also go into your interent settings on your device to disable.

2. Get support
If it's possible and safe, think about letting some-one you trust, know what's happening. This may be a family member, colleague or friend: they can check in with you to make sure you are safe. Think about how they will do this: eg using a safe phone number or message.
3. Emergencies
Think about ways that you can let people know that you need help quickly, like an emergency word, hand movement or message.
4. Phone Numbers
Try and memorise contact numbers of services or friends who can help you, or use 101 to call the police if necessary.
5. Medical help
If you need medical attention, seek help. Doctors and other medical professionals may be able to help. if you are not registered with a GP go to a hospital. They have a duty of care to see you, no matter what your immigration or financial status is.
6. Money
Find a safe place to keep a little money for a taxi fare or phone call.
7. Help children stay safe

8. Documents
If you have access to your birth certificate, national insurance number, passport, nationality ID cards, immigration documents, housing or bank information for yourself and your children, try and take these with you or get copies if it is safe to do so. If you are thinking about leaving, have documents in a safe place or with a trusted friend.
